Dr. B. Sumit Kumar Rao
Founder/ Principal Tour Leader
Born and raised in the Andaman Islands, Dr. Sumit is a dedicated researcher and field biologist with over a decade of immersive experience, studying the birds and insects of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Over the years, he has developed a profound understanding of the region’s ecosystems through countless hours of field research and exploration. From navigating dense rainforests to exploring pristine coastlines, his work provides a holistic glimpse into the archipelago’s diverse habitats. He has surveyed avian life from Landfall Island in North Andaman to Indira Point in Great Nicobar, and has also devoted considerable time to studying birds and insects across Central Nicobar, Little Nicobar, and Great Nicobar Islands.
Although birds are his primary focus, Dr. Sumit’s fascination with insects led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Zoology, specializing in Lepidoptera taxonomy. Among his notable achievements is the discovery of a new moth species to science, Suhela cuneus in 2024. His extensive surveys have also documented 16 first records of moths new to India and 48 new state records for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. During his tours, Dr. Sumit delves into the vibrant world of butterflies and moths, highlighting the intricate ecological roles these winged wonders play. In addition, he serves as a resource person, having conducted multiple Asian Waterbird Censuses (2023, 2024, 2025). Dr. Sumit strives to inspire a deeper appreciation for nature’s wonders, encouraging others to become stewards of biodiversity.
Dr. Minakshi Dash
Tour Leader
A seasoned arachnologist and expert on the archipelago’s biodiversity, Dr. Minakshi has dedicated over seven years to studying spider diversity across these islands. Her fascination with these creatures led her to pursue a PhD in Spider Ecology, enabling her to explore more than 35 islands, from Great Nicobar’s at southern tip of Nicobar to Landfall Island’s northern edges in the Andaman. Blending adventure with conservation, she crafts immersive journeys that reveal nature’s interconnected wonders, whether tracking spiders in rainforests or sharing insights on sustainable coexistence. Her deep knowledge of spider ecology, transforms night trails and excursions into captivating adventures.
We specialize in scheduled and customized birdwatching tours, as well as spider and butterfly watching tours, and hiking tours in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The monsoon season (June to august) brings heavy rains. Best seasons for our tours are:
Birdwatching: Mid of September to mid April (ideal for spotting resident and migratory birds, peak activities on Nov-Jan)
Butterfly Watching: August to February (peak butterfly activity and breeding season)
Spider Watching: September to January (Peak activity on Post Monsoon seasons)
Hiking: October to May (pleasant weather and dry trails)
Our tours are primarily conducted in English and Hindi. However, if you require assistance in another language, please let us know in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
In the Andaman Islands, major mobile networks like BSNL, Airtel, and Jio provide coverage, with Airtel and Jio offering 4G services in most areas. BSNL has the widest reach, especially in remote regions. Coverage can be patchy in certain areas. In the Nicobar Islands, network connectivity is more limited, with BSNL and airtel being the primary provider, though coverage can be patchy in certain areas.
